Need to Get Rid of the Yellow Light of Death on Your PS3 Console?

The yellow light of death or YLOD for short is something that gamers don't want to run into. Essentially, it is the problem that they are forced to deal with. If you game on the PS3 console and you're confronted with a yellow light that flashes, then you know unfortunately what's in store for you. But, at times it goes off. If this happens, it leads to a frustrated, annoyed and testy gamer.

If the light comes on your PlayStation 3 console, what can you do about it? Here's what you need to know on how to fix ylod. There are various things you may try if you see ylod before you totally start to freak out.

1. Take all of your cords and unplug them. Then reconnect all the cords to your console. Don't forget to pull the cord from the wall too. While you reconnect them, make sure they are all in their appropriate places and they are connected tightly. All connections should be very tightly connected.

2. Disconnect the cords from your console over the next few hours. Wait a short while after you plug the cords back in and see if the light is still on.

3. Make sure that your console is set up where there is sufficient ventilation. The air movement must escape freely out of the console; therefore make sure that you are not laying it down where the air vents are blocked because of the console. Specifically, remove anything that is blocking the air vents on the console.

4. Take out the hard drive and then put it back in. After putting the hard drive back in, check for the yellow light. If it still shows, ask someone you know if you may borrow their hard drive to see if it will work on your console. If it works, it's apparent the reason for the yellow light of death is probably due to a problem with the hard drive.

Fix YLOD trying these basic steps. In some cases, these fixes are not the answer. Sorry to say, there might be another problem or a bigger issue causing the YLOD which won't be fixed with these basic solutions. Don't worry. There are more things to try when these suggestions don't work.

You can ship the console off to Sony or some repair man to have it repaired. Shipping it off to Sony takes money and time if the warranty has expired on your console. A electronics technician will cost a bit of money also and sometimes it is even difficult to find one that knows how to fix PS3 issues.

The other possibility you have which is much more affordable and less time consuming is repairing the error yourself with the guidance of a special PS3 guide for repairs.
